Beyond Fear: Lessons
Lesson one. Boundaries
of Intuition
There is much talk about boundaries, but little thought as to what these boundaries are, or how we can sense them. Interoception is the sense of what is happening inside the body. Using the heart as a center of focus, this lesson explores the development of boundaries through interoceptive awareness, height exposure and honest reflection. Through this process you will begin to forge a connection with intuition, the signal of the implicit unconscious functions of the mind-body.
Would you get in a car without brakes?
Lesson two. Boundaries
of force
The brain is constantly making predictions about what the world is like. By developing physical strength, the ability to produce and resist force, we may change the quality of these predictions, and with them, our willingness to meet unpredictable situations. This lesson shares a variety of bodyweight strength protocols, for key weight bearing structures, such as the ankles, wrists and knees.
What does it mean to strengthen the imagination?
Lesson three. Stochastic Acrobatics
Many movers only learn to deal with the risks they are expecting. To move beyond fear, you have to learn how to deal with the risks you are not expecting. In this lesson, you will learn how to position your body to quickly recover from shocks and surprises. The lesson shares simple exercises for developing spatial awareness, then implements these lessons into more chaotic, unpredictable scenarios.
Can you deal with what you’re not expecting?
For a long time, I believed that safety was the path away from fear, and there is some truth to that. However, in the moment of seeking safety, there is a promise of difference, avoidance, escape. Joy, instead, represents a high frequency of small surprises; not holding on too tightly, and not being avoidant in the least. This lesson shares four layers, beginning with a meditation on sensation and joy, and finishing with a stimulating set of height exposure exercises, which are performed whilst maintaining the meditative quality of joy.
Joining Beyond Fear, you will receive a link to a CIRCLE.SO space. On the 4th of December, the first coursework will drop, alongside a pre-recorded lecture on defining fear and notes on the practice element of the course.
